Hello, and welcome to Echo Run Farm!
We are a small farm with show quality dairy goats. We raise goats for show, 4-H/FFA, family milkers, and as pets. We breed Oberhasli, Saanen, Sable, and Experimental dairy goats. We have been making quite a few changes to our herd over the last couple of years trying to improve our herd. Our goats are tested annually for CAE and kids are raised on CAE prevention. We have never had CL or Johnes on our farm. We started showing our goats in 2014 and were very impressed with our goats for their first time out. We hope to improve each year by showing with the best in the country. We attend 4-6 shows each year and we hope to see you there as well. In 2015 we had taken some time off as we were having some health issues and thought we were moving so we had sold all of our goats. Come to find out that we are not moving and our doctors have signed off on our health so we are ready to start back up with our favorite breeds. Our Oberhasli herd consists of Ober-Boerd, Vanjust, and Munchin Hill. Our saanen herd consists of Royal Colors, Tera Dell, Sunset Dreams, and Pleasant Grove. Our Sable herd has started from Kickapoo Valley, Royalty, Vallis De Auctus, and JHFarms. Our Guernsey herd has started with Treasured Acres. We are very excited to see our herd grow and improve.
In 2018 we attended the National Show in Columbus, OH. We were very impressed with our small herd. We took 11 does, out of those 11, 5 made the cut, 4 of those were in the top 10. We had two more in contention to make the cut. The rest of the does just need more time to grow and mature. We love them so much that we are more than happy to give them that time. We are now at the Ohio State Fair. At the Ohio State Fair our Saanen Sr Kid got 1st Place in a very competitive class. Then our 2 yr old Saanen doe got 2nd/2nd Udder and 3rd Udder overall. We had a great show season in 2018.
For 2019 we became an ADGA Plus member; which includes milk test, linear appraisal, and dna typing. We have learned alot this year while on milk test, what we need to work on, what we're doing well with, and what we need to add to our breeding program. We have added some new jr herdsire's to our program from nationally renowned farms across the country. We have upgraded on some does, including bringing in the 2017 ADGA National Reserve Junior Champion Oberhasli doe, GCH Vanjust HE Hermione 1*M to add alot of style and general appearance to our oberhasli herd. We will also be attempting our first AI's this fall as well. One of our first two AI attempts were successful we are so excited for this breeding! We also have 4 does that earned their milk stars this year. It has been a very rewarding year with alot of growth and knowledge building experiences. Have a great new year and kidding season to all!!!
For 2020 we will have to rely on our does milk test numbers to get our herd out there due to this corona virus craziness. At this time linear appraisal has been cancelled for the year, and most of the shows that we attend have been cancelled, including the National Show. We have added our first Sable buck from the Kickapoo Valley herd. We can't wait to see baby Sable's on the ground in 2021. We have added a couple of new oberhasli herd members from the Ober-Boerd herd. We have also added a new Saanen herdsire from Ober-Boerd, as well as some does from the Tera-Del herd. Then finally we had triplets born this year for the very first time, and not just one set, but two. Our first set was from a very successful AI. Our Oberhasli jr herdsire was a product of this AI. We can't wait to see what he brings to our breeding program. If you are looking for a new jr herdsire we have some Oberhasli, Saanen, and an Experimental buck available. Please don't hesitate to contact us. We look forward to talking about our goats with you. Stay safe and try to stay sane during this crazy time.
In 2021 we have decided to slow down a little bit as we won't be able to attend the National Show due to the restrictions. We will be attending a local club show plus a few fairs this summer. Echo Run Farm is working on their third year of milk test and have high hopes for some pretty impressive milk scores. Also this year we are hoping to once again participate in linear appraisal. We will have to wait to see if our area gets scheduled for a session. Fingers crossed. Later this summer we will be attending a Lap AI seminar and will be submitting a couple of our does this breeding season and are very excited. There are some pretty exciting breedings planned for this fall. Please take a look and if you see anything that interests you please let us know. We will have Oberhasli, Saanen, Sable, and Experimental kids for you to choose from. Most buck kids will be available next kidding season and maybe some doe kids too, depending on what is born. There will be some milkers available as well.
For 2022 we are making numerous changes including a new location. We are in the process of moving to Shiloh, Tennessee. We will still be breeding out favorite breeds of dairy goats, our layer chickens, guard geese, and our rescue horses. New to our farm are our Guernsey Dairy Goats from the Treasured Acres herd in Idaho, Rouen and Buff ducks, Red Bourbon and White Palm Turkey, and Wool/Hair cross Sheep. Some other new things this year are We have decided to offer DNA parent verification on all papered babies from our breedings starting this kidding season. We want everyone to know exactly who there kid is and want you to be satisfied with their pedigree. Also, starting this year we will only be offering buck kids that are reserved all other buck kids will be raised for freezer camp. There will be no buck kids later on in the year for sale for breeding stock. So, if you are interested in any of our breedings you need to get your name in asap for a buck kid reservation. We are full up on doe kid reservations for the 2022 kidding season but, I will take names for the 2023 kidding season. Have a a great holiday season and a safe kidding season!
In 2023 we were forced to downsize due to the economy and feed prices. We currently have Oberhasli, Sable, a few Saanen, Experimental, and a few token does. Also, due to ADGA continuously increasing prices we will still offer registration on kids however, we will only pay to DNA buck kids for parent verification. We no longer have sheep but are still raising chickens, turkey, geese, and ducks for eggs and meat purposes. We should have plenty more kids to offer up for sale this coming year as w are hoping to attend the National Show in Louisville in 2024.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Mellissa Saylor
